Joost Invitation

Joost

Edit: If you are interested in an invitation to Joost, visit this page. I have an unlimited number of invitations to give away!

I have officially been invited to be a beta tester for Joost. For now Joost is in the beta stage, and can only be downloaded and used by invitation-only.

In the coming days, I will be giving out invitation tokens to a few lucky people. This is a contest, not a free giveaway.

To be considered, I am asking you to write an essay about why I should consider you for an invite –on your own blog. Then with your comments, link back to that post, with the links to my blog.

Your essay should be at least two paragraphs. It must have at least two links back to my blog. One of them will be to this post. The other(s) will be to another post(s) that you like on my blog. I have lots of awesome posts on my blog. Give me the respect of reading more than just this post, please.

Failure to follow these rules will disqualify you for any consideration on my part to invite you. Joost invitations are very hard to come by. If you want an invitation bad enough, this is a cakewalk.

The best posts –which also follow the rules, will win. Again, this is a contest, not a free giveaway. Please stop begging, because you will not receive an invite this way. You will be totally ignored. Leaving me your email address is not good enough, and dumb on your part, because spammers will flood your inbox as a result.

You must follow the rules. I will be keeping track of those who qualify.

So what are you waiting for?

sorry i just re-read the whole post- here’s the rest (sry)
I love everything technology. I eat, breathe and sleep technology. It’s kinda pathetic, isn’t it? lol. Seriously it’s my life and it would make it so much better. It’s my bday in 3 weeks and it would be an awesome present ;).
I am also looking to start a technology review blog and would praise your site. I’ve added links to my myspace blog, and sent out a bulleton. Your blog is awesome and I highly appreciate and respect your work. I also respect the fact that you’re honest about this and aren’t trying to make a quick buck on eBay for something that didn’t cost you anything. I could also send u over a product key for Windows Home Server, Beta 2 along with download links for the software. I would appreciate it SOOO much, you would make my day. Please consider me as a winner, you have no idea how awesome it would be, and I promise to “Pay Forward” the good karma you’ve envoked. Thank you!

[edit: you can participate in this contest Joey, by following the rules like some of the others have. You are welcome to participate, and I appreciate the link to my site on your myspace blog, but please follow the instructions of the contest, in order to qualify for an invitation to Joost.]

Why don’t you people simply follow my simple contest rules? it’s not that hard. It’s only two paragraphs, for crying out loud!

  31. Posted 2007 March 7 at | Permalink

    Hello Brent

I participated to your contest. I think it’s a really creative way of “not giving away something for free”. I’m a webmaster with some years of experience, but I really want to keep up with the latest technologies so I wrote an essay on my blog: http://tgv-inbed.blogspot.com

I hope I will be invited so we can exchange our thoughts about this P2PTV project!

Hope to hearing from you very soon.

  32. Posted 2007 March 7 at | Permalink

I have posted an short essay linking to your blog from mine. http://www.meranda.org/blog/article.asp?BlogID=893

Consider this as my entry into your contest.

BTW, what in particular did you like/not like about Joost? I haven’t had a chance to really look at it (hopefully an invite will be coming my way!).

    Thanks!

  33. Posted 2007 March 7 at | Permalink

Finally! Someone has followed the easy and simple rules.

In all fairness, I want to give other people a chance as well, so start writing people.

Stijn’s and Seth’s examples are a great start.

I have been working and involving in software development for the last 20 years. I was a CTO of software company for the 8 years. I have been participating in all software beta test programs throughout the years.

My values to all beta software program are 1.) to provide constructive feedback on improvement, 2.) clearly provide situation where bugs will happen. This will help to minimize buggy solfware when it is released, and 3.) most importantly, I will provide more possible ideas to the software. Being a CTO for software company, these are values that I can contribute to Joost.

Okay, looks interesting, turn our thousand dollar PC into a hundred dollar TV :P

Looks good and something I may consider if we didn’t already have TV’s all over the place. Both PC’s have TV tuners and PVR’s too!

  37. Posted 2007 March 8 at | Permalink

@Mike, if you are such an expert at testing software, why come to my blog to be for an invitation for Joost? Why not a) participate in the contest so I can be fair, or b) just tell Joost what you have told me?

I had to wait about two months to get invited by Joost. I am trying to be cool and fair by offering a contest like I am. It’s fine if you do not want to participate, but this is going to be how whomever ends up winning, wins. The same goes for everyone else.

@Michael, you have quite a good point. It does not replace digital cable TV for me –not even close. In fact, to be honest Joost isn’t any better than many other Internet video software applications out there already –yet. Saying that Joost is the only one of its kind, would be like saying Skype is the only VOIP software available.

By the way, I built my computer for around $75.00, and some spare parts. Shhh.

Hey, just saw about this post on PSFK. Seems like people don’t know how to follow directions! Anyways, I don’t know if you’re still looking for people to invite, but I’m a digital media student and would love to take a look at Joost. Here’s my post about it with a mention or two of you! Have a good one.

  43. Posted 2007 March 8 at | Permalink

Yes, Annie the contest is still going. I haven’t set a deadline yet. So far, you and only a few others have been smart enough to follow the rules. But we have got the ball rolling now. Let’s see where it goes, shall we?

I am definitely glad to see some females in the contest now. Woo-hoo!

Sadly, I think my blog does not attract enough female bloggers/readers. I would like to change this in the future, due to the fact that I love women. I don’t mean this in a sexist way. I mean I want more involvement from women on my blog, because I want them to share their perspective and participate.

I’m glad you are here now.

Yes you are in the contest. You have followed the rules exactly as I have asked.

Joost seems to be slow about giving out invitation tokens to beta users, but I assure you that I will try to give out as many as I can to those who have participated in the contest.

So far, the posts have been awesome!

I want to thank everyone who has participated so far. It has only been a few days since people have actually started to get it. It also seems like the word is getting spread around a little bit about the contest. If you like, tell your buddies.

    Happy blogging friends!

  44. Posted 2007 March 8 at | Permalink

I also want to point this out to those whose entries have been disqualified:

It’s not too late for you. I repeat, it’s not too late. All you have to do to undo this is to follow the rules of the contest. That is it. So go ahead and redeem yourselves, if you like. I want your participation, and can honestly say that I am thoroughly enjoying reading all of the great posts so far.

Folks, this is all about having fun, and at the same time making new friends, in addition to trying new technologies.

  48. Posted 2007 March 9 at | Permalink

Yes Ernie, you are qualified. All who follow the rules of the contest are qualified. It’s not so hard is it people?

I encourage you guys to read the posts from other people’s blogs about this. Some of the posts are really good, and I am having a lot of fun with this.

  49. Posted 2007 March 9 at | Permalink

Julien, you can’t make the post then delete it later. I’ll check back to see if you fixed it, otherwise…take a wild guess at your status in the contest.

This has to be a real blog post. You can’t start a new blog just for this. I want this on your real blog. Or if I inspire you to start a new blog, don’t make this your only post. Don’t insult my intelligence please.

Also, it is totally uncool to burden the servers of wordpress.com with a B.S. blog. If you don’t plan to blog here, please delete it, for the benefit of the rest of us who cherish our space at wordpress.com.

  50. julien651
    Posted 2007 March 10 at | Permalink

    Hi Brent,
you can see here I have fixed my post: it was only an error with the publishing button (I didn’t click on it).

It is true that I started the blog just for the contest, but belive me, this is the first time to me creating a blog and I will do my best so that it will be a real blog.
I have never intend to insult your intelligence (you got this great idea of the contest- there was only a miss-understanding)

I don’t know what is B.S. blog, but I am sure that if a blog was created and not visited for a long time, it will be deleted. So why do you care of the space, knowing that nowadays we have more than what we need.

Hi Brent, it’s really nice to see that some more people entered the contest after me and followed the rules. It’s also very interesting to read other blogger’s posts.

Do you have any idea when you are going to give away some invitations? I know you want to give more people the opportunity to enter the contest, but can’t you already give away some invitations to the first ones who entered your contest?

That way we can already test out Joost and write some new posts about it and encourage some more people to enter your contest if they would like to receive a Joost invitation as well.

    Sunny greetings from Belgium

    Stijn

Please be patient. The good people at Joost are slow to give tokens to its beta users to invite others.

    Please stand-by with your patience.

I’m also hoping for more contest entries. I’ve never said that this is based upon a first come first serve basis. I will most likely draw names from a hat, just to be fair. This contest is not about timing. Instead, it is about writing. This is clearly defined in the contest rules. I have not made a deadline yet, but I will announce when the deadline is approaching. I have only been running the contest for about a week now.

    Brent,
I want to ask you 2 quetions:
    1) how can we know if we had passed the contest?
    2) is it true that on March 15 Joost will open the invitation floodgate?

    Julien

  57. Posted 2007 March 13 at | Permalink

Julien, if you follow the contest rules, then you are in the contest. So far, you have not followed the rules. You have to follow all of the rules, not just a portion of them. I will not keep explaining them. Just go back and read the post for yourself.

No more questions about the rules. They are very clear, and obviously other people understand them.

Apparently the March 15 date is when Joost will be allowing it’s beta users to invite a lot of people. The release of Joost to everyone is not until May.

I plan to give away as away as many tokens as Joost allows me to give. It’s not up to me. It’s up to them, as far as how may tokens they give me. You ought to expect that March 15 is when I will be giving away some tokens —for those of you who followed the rules of the contest, that is.

Hell, perhaps I’ll sell you one Julien, since you don’t like following rules!

It is starting to offend me that some of you people do not even read my post, you just beg for invites. How nice of you. You are that inconsiderate to me, and you expect me to consider you? I think not!

I’m seriously considering deleting ALL of the comments which do not follow the rules.

I want this to be fun, but I am getting very irritated by the fact that the vast majority of people leaving comments, are obviously not reading the post, because if they had, they would know that this is a contest with rules.

I’m wanting it since I heard about Joost in a television show and it’s just what I was looking for a long time!

I like your blog. I just saw the homepage and read one of your posts and WoW! You’re really smart! I didn’t know that thing about those guys supporting Iraqi resistance (link here: http://brentroos.com/2007/03/25/portland-liberals-support-americas-enemies/)… And I totally agree with you about that thing of Cuba. Cuba must be a very hard place to live. That Castro is an unclef**ker (hhhhhahahhahah) I think it’s the only place in America that still have Dictatorship — actually it is in the whole world! Just like England (or Great-Britain, suit yourself) is the only country in the world with Monarchy.

Well, I’d like a lot an invitation of yours, since you’re offering for nothing more than more people to see your blog. I don’t really like blogs (I think this is because I made one once and nobody visited, then I quit and since then I don’t like blogs anymore — I didn’t use to update it, tho’ hahhahah), but I liked yours “a bunch” and I think we should have more people like you in the world!

I’m gonna come here every time I can, I’ll even bookmark your homepage!

    Loved this post (http://brentroos.com/2007/02/16/joost-invitation/).
    Loved you! :P (hhahahhahahha)

I’m wanting this invitation since I saw they talkin’ about Joost in a television show. I was looking for it a long time!

Okay, then, I think my job is done, it’s time for you to do your job and invite me. :D

It’s amazing how the people is getting crazy for an invitation from you… to be honest if i was able to survive without Joost, i can wait till the beta ends.

Nothing personal, but please don’t invite me

    Regards, Luis

It’s amazing to me, how many people can’t read, or just disregard my post, instead begging for stuff.

The least you could do is read my article. Then you would know that you are not following the rules of the contest.

But I don’t want to keep repeating myself. Those of you who choose not to participate in the contest can assume that I will completely ignore your plea.

Almost every person that has commented here does not know how to read. Since this is the case, you must also be too dumb to use Joost as well.

If you had read the post, you’d know the deal.

    Stop begging losers.

pikoli, are you a total jackass? Can you not read the comment right above? I know you didn’t take the time to read my article, but you could have at least taken the two seconds to glance at the comment that I made directly above yours.

    The answer is

    NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Posted 2007 March 28 at | Permalink

I’m sure the folks at Joost would be interested in your spin on invites and how you respond to potential beta testers. You need to get a life and over your GOD complex. Brent, don’t be such a jerk, I know it will be hard for you, but try.

  95. Posted 2007 March 28 at | Permalink

Um Total Dork, did you also fail to read the post? There is a contest for Joost invites. I have too many people not reading the post, and just begging instead.

What do you know about what Joost thinks? They told me that they think this contest is a good idea.

People need to stop being so lazy. They also need to have a shred of respect and at least read the post about the Joost invites. I am not the one being the jerk. Actually you have violated the rules of this blog by telling me what to do and using foul language. I can do whatever I want here, and I put this here just so I could show you my response to it.

The people that actually are in the contest, are happy to be participating. It’s about fun, but it is not fun for me to have to look at all of these people who refuse to read a couple of paragraphs, all the while begging like starving children for something that they might easily have, just by their community participation.

You think you know how I am? Never assume.

Do you people read, or just totally not comprehend?

  98. Posted 2007 March 28 at | Permalink

My appologies for the off-topicness Brent, but since I find no other way to contact you, I will take a shot and ask here.

My question is, if you would consider to maybe start a link-exchange of sites? Again I am sorry for the off-topicness and I hope you consider my question.

    Thanks,
    Ernie.

This website was recently discovered by myself and since then it has been immensely interesting reading, although I haven’t actively taken part, which is a shame. The blog is at http://brentroos.com for anyone interested. The purpose of this piece of writing is to express my appreciation of this blog and Joost itself, formerly known as the Venice Project. Its is value, and if only I had an invitation to Joost I could really know the full extent of it’s value, as I do on this site
This site house many classics, and one such is found here: http://brentroos.com/2007/03/22/how-to-be-the-most-annoying-person-in-america/. It is absolute quality; well done Brent.
Finally, this link: http://brentroos.com/2007/02/16/joost-invitation shows kindness and generosity not much seen on the Internet in some areas. I will be an avid reader of this blog in the future, and hope to win this contest.
But what is a contest anyway? Surely you could just give them away to the most worthy? My brother’s name Is Joost and he was born in Venice! Surely that is enough.
In closing, this is a great site and Joost is a wonderful resource which I hope to be a part of.

  101. Posted 2007 March 29 at | Permalink

My brother’s name Is Joost and he was born in Venice!

    Yeah right!

Freakin’ hilarious though. Thank you for making me laugh.

There’s only one problem though. This has to come from your blog. Not just a comment on mine. Where did you write this?

People, you can use trackbacks, that way I know that you wrote it from your blog.

Sorry but you left this part out. Just show me where on your blog you wrote this, because the homesite you left is not to a personal blog, therefore does not qualify.

Thank you!
The people that actually are in the contest, are happy to be participating. It’s about fun, but it is not fun for me to have to look at all of these people who refuse to read a couple of paragraphs, all the while begging like starving children for something that they might easily have, just by their community participation.

Wow, I don’t know what I’ll do once Joost is available for everyone to download, without begging for an invitation!

What’s hilarious about this post, is the amount of spam that is being generated as a result of so many people submitting their email addresses over the Internet, on a stranger’s website. I’d like to see the numbers, just if for the sake of interest.
