Bloggers That Blog About Other Bloggers

One of the strangely funniest things that I have noticed during my experience as a blogger, is that certain types of articles that I write tend to be re-posted. It’s hilarious. Trust me, I do not mind the link-backs at all! In fact, I encourage all people on the Internet (well almost all) to link to my blog. I just find it curious.

Here’s the deal. It is with only one type of article: specifically Linux, and pretty much specifically Ubuntu.

One site specifically gives me a chuckle: Debian News. It’s not that they post about my post that is funny. It is the way that they present it. For instance:

Ralph Whitbeck had an itch to run Ubuntu and did it using WMware Player. In other Ubuntu news, Brent Roos installs Flock On Ubuntu [source]

or

Brent Ross [sic] have had it with Ubuntu - read about the crashes here. And a goodbye it is. [source]

Trust me, I am not making fun of the author of these, Christian Jensen. I just think it is kind of funny the way that I am presented as some sort of decisive Ubuntu authority. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it is fun to have others refer to me as a mover and a shaker, but honestly, I’m not really. When most people read my blog, they ask “who the hell is Brent Roos?”

When I install Flock on Ubuntu, it’s hardly newsworthy. When I say that I feel that Windows XP makes a better desktop than Ubuntu, it’s hardly worth writing about -again, isn’t it? Or is it? Perhaps there really is a method in my madness! Well, honestly, it’s hardly Shakespeare.

I do not like to get a big head, and I’m far from a big-time blogger.

I just think it is hilarious to present one of these articles as news; as if it is newsworthy whether or not I did something to my computer. But it is a heck of a lot of fun to read. Again, please link to me, and do not stop considering my computer software adventures, newsworthy –because they are exciting man!

Note: I am being facetious, just as I am in most of my opinion pieces. A lack of humor and consideration for irony, is as boring as I can imagine. Never here, my beloved readers! Never here!

    That’s hilarious! I wish I could do something news-worthy ;)

There is a lot of bloggers writing about their experience with Ubuntu - and usually I post that on Debian-News, as it might interest other users what ‘non-authorities’ think about the operating systems.

I could also have referred to you as ‘a blogger’ (which I do when I’m not able to find the name of the blogger), but as your name is stated on the blog, why not use it? (and apologies for misspelling your name). I’m not sure I agree that using your name makes you an authority, but I’ll abstain from that in the future.

Another reason is that others might use it constructively - you can see that it has been picked up and discussed here - https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/sounder/2006-August/008539.html . Some actually tries to figure out what went wrong on your system.

    Best wishes
    Christian

Christian, I hope you did not take this the wrong way. I was not trying to offend you or anyone who writes about me. I was pointing out that I delighted in it, but I had to make it sound interesting is all. I also had to add some irony.

The irony in this, is that I blogged about bloggers who blog about other bloggers! Funny huh?

By all means, do not feel that you should not write about anything I write. Any and all are allowed to, as long as the Creative Commons License is followed, accordingly.

And I wasn’t trying to be arrogant at all. Like I said “who the hell is Brent Roos?” And please Christian, use my name. I insist. Honestly, I am not complaining a single bit. In fact, I love it!

I was only trying to see the humor in something. I hope that you see it this way.

I thank you for your response.

    And cheers to you, fella

    OK, points to you, but now I have to post to Ubuntu Sounder (where I first heard about your post) and let them know ^_-;
